Ellen Moss

Ellen Moss was killed on the 20 November 1940 at 5 St George's Street. Ellen was 50 years of age when this happened.

Address: 7 Dulwich Road, Kingstanding West Midlands Police Records Raid 44 - 20th /21st November 1940 Air Raid Warning Red was given at 7.28 p.m. on Wednesday 20th November, and White at 6.22 a.m. Thursday 21st November. About 75 High Explosive bombs (11 unexploded), 2 parachute mines, and 100 incendiary bomb incidents were reported. Two of the incendiary bombs were of the oil type. The first report of a bomb being dropped was at 7.20 p.m. The districts chiefly affected were Aston, Acocks Green (Shaftmoor Lane), Hall Green, Stechford (Lea Hall), Bordesley, Highgate, Yardley, Hockley(Camden Street, Spring Hill, Monument Road) and Sheldon. A Division - Wrentham Street and B Division - Bartley Green. Very extensive damage was done to dwelling houses in the neighbourhood of Queen’s Road, Aston were a parachute mine exploded in the vicinity. Nine important places were slightly damaged. The windows of about 40 omnibuses in the Highgate Road Depot were shattered when a high explosive bomb exploded on a girder of the roof; there were two casualties in this incident. Total casualties - 14 fatal and 94 non-fatal. Although a great many houses were damaged in the Queen’s Road incident, only two fatal casualties are known. This is due to the fact that the residents took cover in the public shelters in the vicinity.
